Sarajevo, 13 October 2009 - First meeting of the Steering Board of a new Higher Education Project by the European Commission and the Council of Europe
 

The Steering Board of the joint EC-CoE Project ‘Strengthening Higher Education in BiH III’ met for the first time in Hotel Europa in Sarajevo.

This project was granted upon request by the BiH authorities under IPA 2007. It is implemented by the Council of Europe office in Sarajevo with an overall budget of 500.000 EUR. It is co-financed by the EC’s Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance to up to 80%, 20% are covered by the CoE.
 

The project lasts from 2009 to 2011 and focuses on the implementation of the seven key strategies and guidelines to implement the Bologna Process in BiH. These were jointly developed under the previous project, SHE II (2006-2008) and adopted by the Council of Ministers in December 2007. Image
 

The Project Steering Board was established according to a decision of the Conference of Education Ministers in BiH in May 2009. It is chaired by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and composed of representatives of the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the Conference of Education Ministers in BiH, the BiH Rectors Conference, the Agency for Development of Higher Education and Quality Assurance, the Centre for Information and Recognition, two private universities, and the BiH members to the Bologna Follow Up Group.
 

The 1st meeting of the Project Steering Board was dedicated to reviewing and adopting the project’s work plan and the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding that outlines the Board’s steering and review functions for the joint project.
 

Further, the Board confirmed its full support for the project, its objectives and its work plan and expects to be consulted on a regular basis throughout the project. The Board also concluded that particular attention should be given to coordinating with a variety of stakeholders and actors in the course of the project and to the broad dissemination of project results and recommendations among all concerned parties in BiH, including the working level.
